COMMUNICATION SKILLS COURSE

The Communication Skills Course is designed to assist the learner with effective communication in spoken English. There are two courses, Communication Skills 1 and Communication Skills 2. The main goal of Communication Skills 1 is to develop fluency in conversational English. The main goal of Communications Skills 2 is to develop Presentation Skills using visual stimulus and voice to present a message to an audience in a clear, confident, and interesting way.  

ACADEMIC WRITING 1

The Basic Writing Course (Academic Writing Course 1) provides an opportunity to acquire the skills needed to enhance your writing and present your ideas more clearly. Planning, Critical Reflection, and Editing are vital elements in the writing process. The goal of the basic academic writing course is to develop general writing skills supported with regular feedback on drafts produced by the learner. The process of the learner developing and improving academic writing skills, informed by constructive feedback, is used to build both confidence and competence in writing.

ACADEMIC WRITING 2

The Academic Writing Skills Program is designed to prepare university students to plan and develop
academic writing skills required for assignments and projects within their chosen field of studies. There are two courses (Academic Writing Course 1 and Academic Writing Course 2). The goal of Academic Writing 1 is to acquire basic skills such as planning, developing, and formatting academic writing assignments. Academic Writing 2 focusses on specific advanced skills such as paraphrasing, referencing, evaluating, and summarising texts.

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The Business Communication Skills based course provides an opportunity to acquire the skills needed to enhance your speaking confidence and present what you have to say more clearly in English. It is specifically designed for CEOs, Business employees and learners of Business English. Building on a range of topics will widen your scope for discussion and strengthen both confidence levels and fluency. You will cover a selection of topical points to prepare you for initiating or developing conversation. The lessons require the learner to engage in tasks that will develop skills for analysing and critically evaluating up to date discursive articles. A blended learning of both current Everyday Topic Vocabulary and Business Vocabulary in Use will be introduced as part of self-learning with independent self-study tasks post lesson to revise and consolidate business vocabulary taught during the lesson. COMMUNICATION SKILLS 1

This course provides an opportunity to practice and acquire the skills needed in conversations to express your thoughts and opinions clearly in English. Effective communication patterns are key elements in speech. The goal of the course is to provide opportunities to extend and develop general conversational skills by completing tasks that require the speaker to exchange information. The speaking course follows a theme-based and a task-based learning approach. The steps to develop spoken language on this course include visual stimulus to evoke a response, situational tasks to allow for further discussion and input, vocabulary building worksheets to focus on specific topic-related language and questions on specific topics that evoke in-depth discussions and debates to improve overall fluency. The easy to more difficult tasks in each unit aim to build both confidence and competence in spoken English.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS 2

The main goal of this course is to improve your communication skills in spoken English, and to improve your presentation skills. The course promotes the ability to present a message to an audience in a clear, confident, and interesting way. It is a practical course which includes ‘real world’ tasks and situations with cooperation, teamwork and communication with other course participants and the instructor. There is a strong focus on developing excellent verbal and non-verbal communication together with good practice in research skills for delivering effective presentations. Key elements include (1) Applied Skills and Practice, (2) developing, choosing, and Adapting Source Materials to suit your audience, (3) Designing Visual Aids (PowerPoint) to make presentations clearer and more interesting and (4) preparing Outlines and Notes to Plan and Organise your Presentations. There are 8 units and 2 Projects/Presentations which include assessment and feedback. Project 1 is based on a Team Presentation and Project 2 is based on an Individual Presentation.
